Oireachtas Gaeilge Cheanada is a weekend filled with traditional Irish music, singing, dance, story telling, and friendship. It is a celebration of the Irish language (Gaelic) and the traditional culture of that language.

The Oireachtas takes place Friday, 23 June, to Sunday, 24 June, at Gaeltacht Thuaisceart an Oileáin Úir. The Gaeltacht is located near the settlements of Tamworth and Erinsville in the rolling hills along the Salmon River, just north of Lake Ontario (298 Gilmore Road, Tamworth).  The Oireachtas banquet and céilí will take place at the Stone Miles Recreation Center (713 Addington St, Tamworth).

Bed and Breakfast Accommodation is available in Tamworth, and a special hotel rate has been negotiated at the Hampton Inn in Napanee - be sure to indicate that you are reserving for the “Irish Language Festival (Oireachtas Gaeilge Cheanada)”.  Whichever form of accommodation you desire, please book early because space is limited and reservations are in demand at this time of year.  There will not be a bus from the hotel to the Gaeltacht this year.

Friday is a business day, with annual general meetings for Cumann na Gaeltachta, and Comharchumann Sealbhóirí na Gaeltachta, and a coordination conference for Canadian Irish Language Organizations.  The meetings will take place at the Legion in Tamworth (713 Addington St, Tamworth), and are open to the public. Potential investors are especially welcome.

Saturday will include workshops in the morning at the Gaeltacht (10:30 - 12:30), and the afternoon will be a Live Irish Bands Festival (13:00 - 16:00).  That evening there will be a banquet, a guest speaker, music session and céilí at the Stone Mills Recreation Center

Sunday will include the festival competitions at the Gaeltacht, from 10:00 am to 17:30 pm, with a tree-planting ceremony at noon.  The competitions will be followed immediately by the awards ceremony at 16:00 pm, followed by a BBQ supper.

People may wish to remain in the area for a day of sightseeing after the Oireachtas.  We can recommend a trip to Prince Edward County with it's unique history and geography (and its 40+ wineries!).
